Gauging stations (WFD) of surface water
The Water Framework directive prescribes three kinds of monitoring for surface waters: the surveillance monitoring, the operational monitoring and the investigative monitoring. The surveillance monitoring concerns three gauging stations at the main rivers of Luxembourg and one station on the Mosel River situated in Germany. The stations of the operational monitoring are specified in order to be able to supervise the pollution sources in their respective water bodies. The stations for the investigative monitoring are specified in order to be able to determine sources of pollution, if the reason of the pollution of the water body is unknown.
